In a step to boost domestic telecom innovation, the Ministry of Communications (DoT) and the Centre for Development of Telematics (C‑DOT) have signed an agreement to establish an end‑to‑end optical network test bed at C‑DOT’s New Delhi facility. The pact, announced by the Press Information Bureau, aims to accelerate the deployment of indigenous optical communication technologies across the country.

The agreement formalises collaboration between the DoT and C‑DOT. It will create a comprehensive test environment that lets Indian telecom vendors trial and validate optical networking solutions before commercial rollout. The test bed will cover the full spectrum of optical infrastructure, from fiber optics and wavelength‑division multiplexing (WDM) to advanced switching and routing equipment.

According to Swarajya, the test bed’s primary objective is to reduce the industry’s reliance on imported technology. By providing a dedicated platform for experimentation, the initiative seeks to shorten the development cycle for domestic products and enable quicker market entry.
